Jo Jock!

Chris and I just joined the new gym in town. It's a 24/7 facility so we can go 'power-lift' any time we get a wild hair to do so. he he! I'm bound and determined to get healthy this year. Figure if I put it our there for the world to see, I'll have to stick to it! Maybe I'll give Mitch a run for his money at the next marathon in Fargo?!?!?!? One of my life goals is to compete in a triathlon. Just don't know about that swimming in open water. Too many memories of 'Jaws' in my mind. That may work to my advantage. Feel something touch my toe and swim like hell. Either that or panic and drown. he he! Well, it's something to work toward and get me healthy if nothing else.

Funny you should mention such a thing. I have been thinking about a triathalon over the past year or so. I don't know if it would be a full one or one of the shortened versions. It is just something I think I would like to try. I'm not concerned about the swim as much as the bike ride. I would have to train my rear bumper to be able to handle such a seat for that period of time and distance.

OK....so apparantly things have changed a bit since I used to lift weights. It was only back in high school so it wasn't that long ago. he he! Anyway, I go in there and do each machine til I can't because that's the way I used to do it. Break the muscle down, take a day off to recover then do it again, right? People are looking at me like I'm a freak. These people barely break a sweat. I'm like, 'Come on!' If I'm going to pay to go there, I'm getting my money's worth. Sheeeesh! Just wait til they see me in six months. Then we'll see who's laughing. Chris used to lift a lot of free weights so he's teaching me how to use those as well. I'm using muscles I didn't know I had. I got home from the gym tonight and could barely lift my glass of milk at supper. It's the best kind of ache there is though. Makes you feel like you accomplished something. OK...so maybe I am a freak!

Ok so you worked out like you are mad. Can you move at all today? I am hoping I can get back into lifting up at the school. I guess it just depends on how much time I have before or after school.

I can move. I feel great! I kill myself then I give myself a day off and I'm sore but it's a good sore. I forgot how much fun lifting was. I'm feel really positive and optimistic about getting myself healthy. I'm up to 20 minutes on the elliptical too. I have a mountain bike trip planned next fall so I need to get in shape and then come spring start riding my bike so that I'm ready for that. My buddy and I are going to try to ride the Mah-Da-Hey in Medora. I think it's 100 miles. I haven't done any actual mountain biking in years. I miss it! Now I just need to pray I don't get any injuries.

We bought a treadmill a little over a year ago and have used it quite a bit. Kristy has limited her use since becoming sooo pregnant. I was using it nearly every day up until I fell off a golf cart and dislocated my collarbone. Since then I haven't used it at all and then getting so close to moving I wasn't on it either. Now that we are moved I should get back into the routine but it is in the garage because I have to take it apart to get it into the basement. I will get to it eventually. I think I'm getting more exercise moving things including the treadmill than using the darn thing.

Hmmmmmm.........fell off a golf cart and dislocated your collarbone? Sounds like there's a story behind that one. Do you need aiming fluid to golf too? It's an awful sport. Damn little ball!

Yes, there is a story. Aiming fluid was involved along with some swerving, leaning, and a tree. All of this wrapped into one gave me the help I needed to be removed from the back of the golf cart. Interestingly enough the guys driving the cart didn't know I was lying in the middle of the fairway until they arrived at the green and were asked where I was by the group heading to the next tee box.

I would love for you to run the marathon with me! I think it is one of the greatest sporting events. Where else can you physically challenge yourself to that degree? Check that, sounds like you found quite the challenge in some iron. If I would recommend anything I would say go for the marathon. Read about the training and the nutritional needs and go for it. I will tell you that the marathon is the easy part, training will kill ya. The time committment is unbelievable, running 50-70 miles a week takes some will, but a lot of time. The other thing is start today. The marathon is in May, seven months away. Many "authorities" would recommend 1 year of training for your first marathon. Start small and increase 10% a week. Triathalon is something I plan on doing farther down the road when I don't have ankle biters around. Ideally, the kids would be right there on there bike beside me. Dreams.
